That was actually a concept idea for the plot of Portal 2, but instead *SPOILER ALERT* Cave Johnson dies of lunar poisoning, and Caroline is uploaded as GLaDOS's conscience.
The second 'what if ' you mentioned has been speculated by many fans, and, in some cases, the worlds of Half-Life and Portal 2 have been combined in fanfictions. A particular fanfiction that I love of Portal 2, entitled "Blue Sky", does combine the worlds and includes references to many Half-Life and Half-Life 2 elements.

What if... Cave johnson lived long enough to have his conscience uploaded to GLaDOS?
AND
what if... "the Free Man" met Chell after her freedom at the end of Portal 2?
