I'm going to try out Everquest Legends, it seems nostalgic and chill.

the instancing was necessary due to a code fix for mages - the pets are hella overpowered in classic and they were pretty much owning all named spawns

it's not classic exactly - but it's a lot of fun. things they didnt change - no more hell levels, all the spells that were supposed to be in the game actually are - you get spells every level instead of every 4-6, no more naked corpse runs (you still lose exp/need a rez) no extranecous gates (pok books/magus), no newbie armor.

They instanced most of the zones - not raid but almost everything else instances if it gets overloaded.

All classes now have a form of gate sorta - origin at level 5 is an aa/hotkey that will send you to your racial home (no matter what class).

new maps for freeport, oasis/sro instead of original ones

really sleepy so pretty sure I'm missing a lot ...

but it's the old school sit down to play for 2 hours - and look up 10 hours later thinking oh ♥♥♥♥ I didnt mean to do that - it's a blast
