Game ran well on high settings at 45fps with minimal dips towards ~35fps. This is with me playing in the starting desert and jungle biome. I played on a Geforce RTX 3060 and 12th gen intel i5-12400 and had my drivers updated to the latest prior to playing this game. For the first time with an MH game, I've been on the fence with Monster hunter wilds since release and have been researching and investigating it thoroughly due to having heard how easy and "empty" it was. As such, I decided to try it out myself to see what it's like within the 2 hour refund limit whilst trying to get as far as possible and focusing on the hunting aspect.

I did not enjoy my time with it. As an old monster hunter player (since 3tri, 3U, GU, World, Iceborne, Rise/Break) I noticed that there was a lot missing from what I've come to love and expect from monster hunters.

In this entry, there is no need to track a monster since upon embarking on quests you will be placed meters from it which allows you to fight it ASAP. While I recognise that this can be good for people who just want to "get up and go", I really miss the hunting and tracking aspect where you needed to search for the monster using clues.

While the combat is fluid and precise, monsters also tend to be stun locked easily primarily due to the abuse from the focus wound system. Because of this, fights end rather quickly (5mins or less if you upgrade your weapons), and don't really provide a challenge because whiffs or bad decisions often times will not lead to severe punishes. Furthermore, monsters seem to consistently get stun locked which ultimately makes you feel like there is no need to plan your movements. Instead, you can often times freely throw a full combo at it without fearing repercussions (although you will look cool while doing so)

There is no real need to prepare item loadouts or canteen buffs due to everything being accessible at all times. I personally miss this because prior to starting a quest it was engaging to prepare and build for it knowing that if you forgot to do something you could get punished for that. Furthermore, there is no real need to grind for gear and weapons because of how easily accessible they are. Since monster fights end quick, you'll have all the materials you need very soon and along with the wound system which gives you items upon breaks, you might not even have to hunt a monster multiple times.

Like SOS monster hunters, camaraderie is not really present and I miss the old lobby systems where people would group up together, talk, and do turn posts. This is just something regarding multiplayer to keep in mind if you care about that.

Overall I did not enjoy my time with wilds and was left rather disappointed due to the loss of challenge, lack of monster tracking, lack of being needing to be careful with inputs (or risk getting punished), and how quick the fights are. If, like me, you care about difficulty, preparedness, and thoughtful, slow, game play which was common in previous monster hunters, then I cannot recommend Mhwilds.

If however you enjoy being put into the fight ASAP, fluid and precise combat at the expense of difficulty, and just care about going from monster to monster with no fuss or gruelling fights, then by all means Mhwilds will be entertaining because it makes you feel like a BAMF during fights and focuses on keeping you out there so you can find your next punching bag.

Fantastic game, with deep emphasis on forming and understanding relationships between various groups of thought. I liked how the interactions weren't solely "he says this, she says that" but also describing discrete movements such as "showed palms facing up, stormy eyes, scowl, walked heavily, voice cracks, kept hands hidden behind back, etc.". Roadwarden does an amazing job of describing the world around you, from how the people are, to what the environment looks and feels like.

My play through lasted ~41hrs and i was able to complete and experience all interactions in the game while playing under the difficulty setting of normal (40 day limit). In the end I had about 15 days to spare before closing my journey. Your choices in the game matter greatly; from your choice to how you respond to people, to what your personal thoughts are, and especially to how you administrate your time and make the most of the day.

The game is all about reading and interpreting situations based on what you read, as such, if you enjoy reading this game is highly recommended.
