Unfortunately can't recommend it in its current state. The settings revert when trying to change them, mouse and keyboard is a mess of mouse sensitivity and camera issues. While I haven't encountered any of the crashes or character creation bugs others have mentioned, this is enough reason to consider refunding, nostalgia be damned.

I feel the Dark Urge to play again and again and again...

TLDR: Loved it, 100% worth the money (its not even expensive, go for it!) New contender for fave game of the year.

Honestly, I went in with the same high hopes as I did with A Machine for pigs. But unlike that game, which left me with an empty feeling of "thats it?", this game -really- delivered. When the end music hit, and it was truly over, a shiver ran down my spine.

Pros & Cons:
- It suffered from classic things like the scare factor of the enemies disappearing once you got caught once, + But they kept it fresh and scary by having multiple enemies with unique looks and behavior.
- The doors were pretty annoying, they would very often swing right back closed when trying to open (worse on controller than keyboard, from friends experience)
+ The sounds, atmosphere, pacing, story... List goes on.

Probably the most successful game at making me lose track of time. "Just one more day..." then 4 hours has passed. A very enjoyable game with never ending re-play value.

Update:
So its been a while since I finished it. I did enjoy it a lot for what it was, namely a tie in to the original. It took the solid ofundation they had and improved on it with several QOL changes and updates.

Trying to live up to a successful predecessor is hard though. While this one was solid, the story didn't intrigue me as much and felt less like a complete arc and more of several smaller things. A bit scattered, not the same saitsfaction to seeing it conclude.

I do feel that they've kind of tapped this story and hope that when they bring about a new game its somewhere different, new and fresh.


EA impressions:
As an early access product it shows off the base of what its going to be, and I definitely look forward to the final result! Spent about 2 hours to explore and do the available story. As expected the game is still quite bare bones when it comes to flavor text, biomes and secrets to find in comparison to its finished predecessor but the promise is there and whats already in is visually stunning. Such a thrill to dive into unknown waters to see what you can find before your oxygen runs out.

Notable gems:
-Voice acting is brilliant.
-Gotta love that humor.
-The penglings.

Easy to lose track of time while playing because there's always something you need to do next. Fun if you like micromanaging tasks.

Haven't laughed and smiled as much playing a game as I did playing this in a long time. Lots of goofs and feelgood moments.
