This game has no right to be this good.

I mean, what the ****?! One man project, started in 2025, and somehow packed full of content, all for only 8 Euros 99 cents?! Minecraft cost more when it had, like, less than even 20 blocks or something - and that was over a decade ago! I didn't even 'pay' for the game per se, having had the spare change from selling Steam trading cards, that's how cheap it is. Plus the 20% sale for release is such a bro move. I mean, what other dev discounts their game on release day?

But yeah, it's awesome and really is impressive in just how well made it is.

Like, the mineshafts actually go somewhere! And for quite a distance, too! They branch off even, like, properly!

Just goes to show having an unlimited budget doesn't mean higher quality...

Anyhow. As someone who was never able to get into Terraria cause of the 2D aspect (I personally just don't vibe with it, no shade) this game REALLY scratches that itch. There are tons of unique items, mobs, and seemingly much more to the game (judging by the screenshots) that I have yet to see.

The building is great too. I mean, I won't get into details, but damn, so many options and so many special items really add flare to a build. The system for half-heights, stars, slabs, etc. is just ingenious. You have to try it to see it, but I think any Minecraft player will really be able to appreciate it.

Plus, the game is just straight up beautiful. Granted, the aesthetic takes some getting used to at the start, but that is genuinely no hindrance, and you quickly learn to love it. I thought I wouldn't be a fan myself at first. The lighting, too, is beautiful and varied with multicolor light sources that just look sick, even when you're using regular torches.

I've only played for about 2 hours, but it's already proven itself to me. This game is absolutely worth the price, hands down, no questions asked.

My ONLY desire for it that I *really* hope the dev will eventually pull through on is - though I admittedly don't know if it combines with his ultimate vision - unlimited world gen, or, alternatively, FAR larger maps.

Currently, the game is limited to 1024x1024. It's not much, and you feel it when you first wander off from spawn. I know it's not Minecraft, and that might not be the vision, but I really would like a bigger map. More geographic features like seas would be possible, and would add to the creative building variety and really spice up that aspect of the game. Unlimited worlds would be really special, but even maps at 10-100x the size would probably be fine. I just feel a little claustrophobic at its current scale.

As for performance, my specs are attached to the review, but in plaintext: i7-12700k with DDR5 32GB and an RTX 4080S. The game at max settings and 1440p ran around 110-120 FPS for me, and I assume most people will get very reasonable performance on lower end hardware as well. I will test the game on my RTX 3060M / Ryzen 5 / 32GB laptop and report back if it runs poorly, otherwise assume it's good there, too!
UPDATE:
Laptop runs even better, so I assume I may have misconfigured something on my desktop. My laptop has a Ryzen 5 5600H, 32GB RAM, and RTX 3060M, at max settings it runs around 160 FPS.

It's a cool game! Lots of mechanics, two starting dates, and interesting systems at play, even if they are very poorly explained. I only played the 2025 starting date with default difficulty - that is to say, perhaps the other starting date is better, or maybe upping the AI aggression would help - but I find the game loses meaningful challenge very quickly, with only the US, China and Brazil ending up in space, and for that matter, China and Brazil just collapse on their own, leading to no one really doing much. Total wars are often one sided, I've literally wiped out the rest of the planet and only gotten a strike on my own territory once, and it didn't seem to actually do anything. Most funny is actively nuking the enemy and then ending the war by threatening them with nukes. It'd be cool if the AI was a little more proactive in ways that didn't feel random, they don't seem to intelligently act. I initially was very competetively colonizing and acquiring resources, but they don't really seem to care that much. I really do like the crises and the threats arising therefrom, like AI destroying humanity or eugenic elitists trying to overthrow a nation and "purify it", and would love to see it expanded on. It was genuinely something that left me with a weird feeling when my first game ended in humanity effectively going extinct (150k people left) by its own hand.

I also found the performance great on my i7-12700k, RTX 4080S, 32GB system. Only big issue is the loading menu oddly enough, where it seems to stutter and lag pretty bad listing the saves on disk once you have too many.

My suggestions for the future of the game:
-LATE GAME ENEMIES. This! I was disappointed to see no other civilizations once going interplanetary, and a lack of other planets in general outside of the solar system. It'd be really cool if there was a bunch of genuinely threatening late state alien civilizations that could stop the few remaining human factions, or, alternatively, actively invade after a certain point. / conditions being met.
-Tool tips a la Paradox would be much desired. Thi sgame reminds me of playing EU4 way back when, only there's no real community material on Google, so you really just have to try and figure it out intuitively / using logic.
-Alliances should be more meaningful. As it stands, nations seem to without reason leave them.
-Peace conferences are too rudimentary.
-Puppeting nations and controlling their governments / reforms would be interesting
-Custom client states without using an editor
-Breakaway states from core culture that are dynamic, e.g. named after province they spawned in, randomly generated flags, etc.
-More provinces on Earth and in space.
-Fix the nations ending civil wars with (1) on the end of their name, or worse, stalemating with both still around and the near exact same color on the map. I've had like two or three Brazils and can hardly tell them apart.
-Core territories, such that civilizations will actively strive to reacquire them when lost instead of just moving on and leaving behind their entire homeland.

All around, even in early access, it's a decent 7/10 that can definitely improve if the developer keeps up the work.

Before this game, I was certain gaming was dead. Nothing new or amazing could come out of the game industry. I have been proven wrong. This game is a truly a feat; combining things to make more things to make more things. Genius. Enslave animals to do your bidding in exchange for you building infrastructure.

Too bad the DRM makes the game so hard to use and play. Another example of pirates literally offering a better experience for free than the company asking for money.

Very fun, grind-worthy slice of life casual game with lots of potential. Combat, animal husbandry, gardening, fishing, cooking, romancing, etc,. I've never really played any games like this or Stardew Valley ever as I'm not much interested in the genre so this was my first game. Definitely super fun if you enjoy these kinds of casual games or if you want to try one out for the first time. Something you can easily dip a lot of hours into while still having fun along the way. Engaging community, if you ever have trouble there's a Discord and the devs are always answering questions.

Saw the negative reviews but, having waited quite a while for this game, bought it to check it out anyway. I thought to myself, "Surely, even if it is bad, it can't be soooo bad, right? I mean, it's a map game!" Well yes. Yes it can be so bad. The UI is absurdly large, the game runs less than acceptably for my specs, and the map is super difficult to easily interact with. I only could stand to play the game for 10 minutes or so, so I unfortunately can't speak to some of the games deeper problems, but from the initial overview it's very possibly inferior to the last game by quite a large margin, having seemingly adding nothing, instead losing things - I mean, you can't even control the game speed! In a grand strategy game!

Hopefully this game will improve with time, but, having looked at it as it stands now, I am less than optimistic. If you really want something like this game, then check out Victoria 3.
