A very intricate stealth-action game that also serves as a puzzle game with how many ways to complete each mission task there is and the amount of freedom you are given.

Not only the difficulty is dictated by the level layout and the tasks you are supposed to do but also your own creativity (or lack thereof) and adaptability to new situations.

All in all, this is the game (aside of Splinter Cell at the time) that sets a standard for games of the stealth genre.

Cool theme and atmosphere but the control scheme is atrocious and you are not allowed to change it, enemies detect you through walls and there are many instant death floor tiles.

You save the game by smoking which is a 10 second (cancellable) animation that would've been fine to combat savescumming as it is prevalent with the stealth genre but I genuinely do not wish to save every 5 steps I make in case if I fall into some death pit again while I'm trying to sneak.

The fact that none of the characters speak (outside of the main character) where SOUND is a vital part of the gameplay takes the horror element practically completely out of the game, this is funny considering that Darkwood was released in the same year as this!

Overall this game shows that just because your game (Alone in the Dark, 1992) was proclaimed as defining the survival-horror game (by pure luck tbh) doesn't mean that you can do it again, since it was the games that came afterward that improved upon the original design.

Also I just find it funny that the main character is very likely a self-insert of Frédérick Raynal for no reason. Shows just how much these dev are full of themselves.

Almost as good as Fallout 2, although the gameplay and progression was dumbed down to not alienate Fallout 3 audiences which is unfortunate. At least there is JSawyer mod to bring it to it's intended tip-top shape.

Early Access Review
Workshop is full of AI slop and the community will eventually be the death of itself (if it isn't already) with the sheer narcissism and entitlement going around- feels like everything after 2021 has been going downhill because of a mass of people who do not understand the development cycle of the game that cause endless arguments and other mess.

Such as slowing down B42's development speed because of people who bought the game ONLY for the multiplayer and complaining about having to wait for B42's multiplayer- so the developers made a poll whether the "community" would prefer to wait until a stable release of multiplayer or have it alongside the unstable branch this time.

To no one's surprise, the latter has been chosen and behold all the complaints about multiplayer being broken when the average Zomboid player does not comprehend what the term "Unstable" branch means or plays the game with 300+ mods on such branch most of which are duct-tape type of fixes or even "fixes" generated by AI.
Not only that but the community will also torment you and endlessly demand from you to update your mods or port it to x version when you are literally in no capability of doing so whether it is lack of modding documentation, modding tools, personal life situation(s) or simply you choosing to not update until the future versions become more stable.
Eventually your work will be stolen by someone who thinks they are a hero of the community by "updating it" (which usually is ruining the mod's intended purposes) and then you will be seen as the antagonist in such situation by many even if the person whom stole your work is literally asking for donations to keep on doing the thing.

I sincerely do not understand this insanity and neither understand why people act like selfish monkeys on cocaine. The game is okay and it has enough depth to fulfill your fantasies of living out a (relatively) comfy life in an apocalypse whenever you feel bored but, again, the community ♥♥♥♥♥ everything up.

This game is like Team Fortress 2 if it also had PTSD, friendly-fire and larger-scale battles.

Funnily, buying the Digital Deluxe Edition gives you 2 free hats for TF2 and despite the comparison it represents the realities of war like no other game has.

The game softlocked in the intro when it tried to teach me about Mania, had to restart because I picked the dialogue options the game did not expect me to take.

Extreme CPU and GPU usage despite the game being more linear and simple than Pathologic 2.
The game defaults to TAAU anti-aliasing on start-up, does not allow you to disable screen-space effects, comes with upscaling options ...

The assets are bloated and uncompressed, normally one would think of this as a good thing but the game is 40GB and the sound itself only takes like ~680mb!!!
I love your assets, you make them in-house and put a lot of detail into them but there has to be some limit to how detailed they can all be and there shouldn't be reliance on horribly implemented graphical effects as the shaders in this game look like Pathologic 2 beta (this means not good), they were better in full release.

Pathologic 2 had performance issues too but it performed better as an open world game than this setpiece simulator.
It really hurts me that I have to give this a negative review because I actually were interested in the gameplay and Bachelor's POV of the story.

Extremely dark all the time, a bit buggy in co-op and also lack of the signature inventory management, progression and shopkeeper system.

The game lures you in by the grandiose Raccoon City opening scene but shortly after it becomes boring, especially the Chinese parts. The market was nice and creepy but that's the only interesting part.

Feels like the entirety of this game was just an attempt to break into the mainstream audience by streamlining it, but then again, what game made in 2013 didn't?

Played through it once, no reason to do it again as there is no incentive to compared to RE4 or RE5.
