What It Took To Understand — Shinji Moon
In the passenger seat of your car, I ask you what color the burnt orange of the leather seats are and you tell me burnt orange. My cheeks in the rear view mirror are the color of burning, and when I look down at my hands, they’re so pale that I forget for a moment that I own flesh over these bones.

The fog is so thick that I could lose you in it again, you say — and I put my hand on your hand until I mix our fingers up.

There is a shipwreck between your ribs and it took eighteen years for me to understand how to understand your kind of drowning.

The divorce papers say Christmas and July. That’s all you were given to touch the cheeks of your small daughters and try to tell them in smaller and smaller words how absence does not mean leaving.

The first and last time I saw my parents together was in a parking lot at McDonald's. They didn’t speak to each other, didn’t look each other in the eye — only handed me between them like an insult.

When I got into my father’s car, he handed me a Happy Meal toy like an apology.

There are people who cannot be held quietly. There are screams that are never externalized. If I looked at the photo albums of your past twenty years, all I would find are decibel meter graphs of phone calls and the intensity of your silence as you sat smoking cigarettes in the garage.

Absence doesn’t make the heart grow fonder, scientists have finally proven.

All it does is make you that much more aware of how many feet it takes to walk a mile.

There is a shipwreck between your ribs. You are a box with fragile written on it, and so many people have not handled you with care.

And for the first time, I understand that I will never know how to apologize for being one of them.

The best Kingdom Rush game, in the entire franchise!

The only reason this game has so many bad reviews is because A LOT of people can't come to grips with finding out that they're casuals, and refuse to put in ANY effort whatsoever.

I haven't purchased a Kingdom Rush game since the second one. I vehemently opposed the MTX model of the franchise, because it used predatory psychological tactics to prey upon its diehard fans. Especially on mobile, where the monetization strategy is utterly disgusting.

With all that being said... WOW!

So far, Kingdom Rush 6 is absolutely fantastic!

The gameplay is super smooth and intuitive, the levels have a bunch of clickables/easter-eggs/gimmicks to explore and experiment with, towers have three different upgrade paths, in-game, plus meta-upgrades. The heroes are fun, have great voice acting, and unique personalities/gameplay mechanics.

There are a bunch of levels, and they're really diverse, from what I've seen so far. There are multiple difficulties, and also five different game modes to complete, per level!

The game is not for casuals, and I LOVE THAT! They definitely offer a good challenge, in this game, and I intend to get the achievement for completing the game on the 'IMPOSSIBLE' difficult.

All-in-all, yes!

Lastly, the art team deserves raises, all around! Simply sublime!

The More I Play, The Better It Gets!

Update after halfway through the available levels (levels! not content.):

So, almost every level has fun little lore elements, set dressings, clickables, little in-game scripted scenes (one made me genuinely guffaw), and even their own mechanics. It's really impressive. Many stages will need a few playthroughs to get the overall understanding of the paths, what to build where, and which loadout you'll bring into the map. It's really impressive, honestly.

You really need to focus, plan, and be present. I looooove that you can't just play on auto-pilot, or use the same strategies over and over. Even when using the same loadout, different levels each require their own finesse. It's freaking dope!

The extra game modes are tip-top! This is up there with variety offered in games like Bloons TD 6, Axon TD, No Creeps Were Harmed TD, and Emberward. No endless mode, though. One of the game modes makes you play with mostly just spells, one is mostly just heroes—you play with four(!) at once; it's dope!—and then there is a blitz mode, a challenge mode, and an Original Kingdom Rush mode, where you only get one hero, and you get to use the original towers. They even have the original art, animations, upgrades, AND audio/voicelines!! It's hecking awesome.

There are also a lot of bosses and mini-bosses! It's surprising, challenging, and nothing feels cliché or played out.

You literally get two games in one!

So, there is a bonus mode where you get to play through the levels using the original Kingdom Rush towers, with the original audio, art, animations, and upgrades. It's freaking awesome! And it's literally like getting a free, second game, nested within this one. CRAZY VALUE! And there are still four more bonus game modes, which are all quite fun and unique.

Improvements that would make this the best TD it can be:
(copied from my forum post in the Feedback & Suggestions)

  • Encyclopedia access during missions would be helpful for planning upcoming waves.
  • Royal Edict could have a quality of life improvement to show its effective range.
  • Barracks towers could have a quality of life improvement to feature a click-and-drag method of moving units by dragging from the base of the barracks itself. Unless it's via the flag or dragging from the units for balance reasons.
  • Loadouts for switching between 1-3 preferred strategies, quickly, to meet the demands of various challenges.
  • Meta Progression upgrades being able to be removed one-by-one, instead of always having to return every single point.
