as a cracking the cryptic fan this game was great! I actually wish they'd add some of the quality of life features from this game to sudokupad, especially the L key which removes all red pencil marks

WHAT A GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of my fav games of all time to be honest. I watched one video of it then concluded it's a game that watching videos of it takes away something special, so I bought it and played it every evening for a week

It's made for people who enjoy recreational maths and science, and that is me

The premise scratches an itch in my brain that I've had ever since I heard about things like the arecibo message and golden record. The urge to figure out communication from a baseline of zero except universal constants. My personal fermi paradox answer is "they're too far away in space and/or time for the laws of physics to allow us to find each other" so I don't think this will ever irl happen let alone in my lifetime but it's awesome to explore in fiction!! And the way this game executes it is incredibly smart; great game design and great story

Also got to give a huge shout out to the MUSIC in this game!!!!!!! it really complements and enhances the vibe of wondrous scientific discovery

PLAY THIS GAME if you like mysteries or psychological horror. Play it even if youve played type help, even ESPECIALLY if you've played type help, this remake adds a whole second half to the game which is equal if not even better in quality

This game is clearly very inspired by Obra Dinn and as someone who loved that game, this is a very cool little game too! It absolutely captures the feeling of going down internet research rabbit holes and I said out loud a few times "aw neat, I love gay people".

Thanks to Jacob and Julia's stream for bringing it to me! I watched their first part then waited for my paycheck so I could buy the game myself and play it rather than experiencing it fully second hand

A fun puzzle game about decoding the magic words in bizarre liminal rooms. The writing and graphical style add to the vibes. With the printed pages that you have to use for each level it felt like a real escape room, scribbling down stuff in my notebook to work out the puzzles. Cryptic at times but it has a hint system and an official walkthrough that's written as hints rather than spoilers; I never had to consult an external walkthrough.

The time limits are quite generous and not punishing at all (I completed most levels in half the given time), they just provide a clever way for the game to discourage brute force attacks

This game partially fills the void Obra Dinn left in my soul; a similar type of fill-in-the-blanks-to-solve-this-snapshot-of-a-murder detective game, a bit easier in some ways and a bit trickier in others (overall easier bc there's no nonsense like the chinese topmen). If you loved that game and feel grief that you will never play it for the first time again, play this game now!

And unlike that game, this one has DLC out and possibly more on the way, because its format is flexible enough to make DLC campaigns feasible (where, as much as I would like an Obra Dinn DLC and buy it full price day 1 if it existed, where would you even set it? a ship is already the perfect location for its premise)

It has a very clever hint system that makes solving the puzzles blind preferable to using hints, but also makes using hints preferable to looking at a walkthrough, which is what a hint system is supposed to be like so this is great

my playtime at time of review reflects how long it takes to finish the main campaign, plus maybe an hour of leaving the game idle for the music (the music is great)
