Ok, so. Watch the trailer first. Is this style of game something you would like? Turn-based, world-moves-when-you-move, top-down abstract dungeon crawling game?

If so, just get it. It's free, ffs. It's also phenomenally well-done. World building is really interesting. It has all the modern conveniences for this genre. The exploration is fun and interesting. The music and style are wonderful.

The game won't hold your hand, though. You'll have to explore and figure stuff out on your own. There's an excellent, top-tier journal feature in the game that's fully searchable by keyword. You will have to use it to figure out what to do to move forward occasionally.

Don't get this game if you need a quest log with 400 super specific steps and map markers in order to do anything. This is an old school-style game at its heart.

I bought the DLC just so I could give the devs money for this product. I honestly can't believe it's free. They definitely could have sold this game for $20 at least. It's worth at least a single play through. Please just get it.

I don't play a lot of text-based RPGs, but I thought this one was wonderful. Not too long or complicated, but it did a great job of making me feel like I was exploring an unknown wilderness. The choices are tough and didn't always work out the way I wanted them to, and there were a good number of twists in the story and secrets to uncover. There are a lot of decisions to make, both about how you interact with NPCs and various threats or problems, but also about who your character is and how they are changing (or not) to suit their surroundings.

Mechanically, the resource management wasn't too tough, but there were some close calls at times. That combined with the time-based travel and action features communicated a really good sense of tension. The inventory system is descriptive and unrestricted, no worrying about bag space, and everything has some kind of use.

It was worth doing a second play through with a different type of character and I completed two runs in around 20 hours. I may even come back to this after a while and do another one in the future.
