Children of Silentown aspires to be a dark fairy tale adventure game, and I'd say it does a pretty good job. To be clear when they say dark fairy tale they mean more in the modern sense, not the classic original Brothers Grimm sense, nobody gets sliced bow to stern.

As an adventure game it has some clever puzzles, although the thread one is repeated with increasing difficulty, I found it enjoyable enough that I didn't mind doing harder and harder versions as the game went on. Moon logic is pretty sparse and there's a decent variety of locations and set pieces.

It's a very solid "good for all ages" type game, but like a modern Pixar movie it's probably aimed most at middle-grade players. Nothing wrong with that of course and it's perfectly enjoyable by older audiences, but if you're picking it up expecting something really emotionally challenging and disturbing you might be disappointed.

This game follows a kid living in a village tucked deep in a forest that everyone agrees you should never, ever enter, mostly because of the roars that echo out of it every night and the fact that people occasionally just vanish and nobody seems too shocked about it anymore. Lucy, being a video game child, decides the correct response to "everyone in my village is quietly traumatized and disappearing" is to go investigate personally. Kids in these games never once consider therapy as an option.
