ToonSouls Maker is honestly one of the most dull pieces of garbage I've played in a long, long time. I don't know why I decided to play this, I don't know how I decided to play this, and after experiencing it, I'm not sure why I thought I deserved to be punished like this.

I genuinely struggled to find anything positive to say about this game.

Let's start with the presentation. The art direction is awful. The outlines of practically every asset look drastically different from each other, so nothing really feels like it belongs together. It has this bizarre, thrown-together appearance that makes the entire game look incredibly cheap. And then there's the fact that some of the assets are AI-generated, which certainly doesn't help. I'm not expecting a visual masterpiece or anything, but this was just sad.

The music isn't much better. It's not particularly memorable, interesting, or even theirs. All of the composition in this game is simply just stock music, which perfectly complements the rest of the game because it feels like it was slapped in there simply to fill the silence. Music can do a lot to give a game personality, but there's practically no personality here to begin with.

The mechanics are as barebones as they possibly could be, and there's nothing particularly unique or satisfying about actually playing the game. But if you thought the actual game was bad, just wait until you get to the LEVEL EDITOR.

You would think that a game clearly inspired by something like Mario Maker would understand that the level editor is supposed to be the main attraction. It's the entire point of the game. Instead, ToonSouls Maker gives you a collection of awkward tools, barely explains how any of them work, provides no proper manual, and then seemingly expects you to figure the rest out through divine intervention.

I genuinely don't understand how you're supposed to design anything halfway decent in this thing. Even if you have an idea for a level, the editor constantly gets in the way of actually making it. It's a frustrating puzzle where the objective is apparently figuring out how the developers intended their own editor to work. I couldn't even make a presentable level because of how awful it is.

At some point, I stopped being frustrated and just started wondering why I was still playing. I'd almost prefer if it were completely broken. At least then I'd have something to talk about.

ToonSouls Maker should've remained ignored by the algorithm.

1/10 game. Do not buy this. Either get Mario Maker or Cuphead. Both is good.
