We have listened to feedback and done some changes based on feedback, and fixed bugs that we have found, and that have been reported. Thanks for reporting bugs to us!

Fixed

The Wizard's magic missile now hits the end boss.
Ghosts no longer wander out of the room when fleeing a Repellent potion.
Dying while changing back from Chicklathotep no longer leaves a black screen.
The strength bar no longer sticks at the wrong value after a backstab.
Resuming a suspended run no longer keeps the backstab strength boost for good.
Eggsterminator and Dungeon Master now unlock for players already past the target.
Every chest on a level can now be found.
A familiar's kills no longer count as yours. Helpful for Pacifist run achievement.
Summoning a captured familiar no longer counts as drinking a potion. Helpful for Dry Run achievement.

Changed

Stoneskin now stops poison from an attack, spending a charge instead.
Strong Ale and Reveal Map are now enhanced when drunk on a magic tile.
A Chicklathotep always appears in the boss room for the Wizard.
The Chickun Run boss now drops an egg every few beak hits.
Level 13 has been rebalanced. There were too many Old Thangs.

Difficulty and RND - Amiga vs DX

I cannot get past Level 13 in the DX as enemies one-hit me there. What am I doing wrong? I am clearing out all the levels, getting all the upgrades (as warrior) and still one bad move means gameover. I've played the original Amiga release and finished my first run on one of my first couple of tries. Here, after 17h i cannot get there no matter what. Is the game singificantly more difficult now? Don't get me wrong.- i appreciate the game and I am having a lot of fun with it (hence my 17h played so far) but ...

New Update (1.03)

Today we have patched Roguecraft DX to add a few bugfixes and post-improvements.

The main thing we have fixed is to make controlling the game with a thumb-stick / analogue controller a lot more convenient. Especially in the main menu there were issues when using a thumb-stick.

Other small fixes and improvements:

Make sure the highscore music is playing on the highscore screen. For some reason this was missing in the release version of the game.
Updated so the end boss no longer is affected by the Freeze Time potion. Its minions are still affected though.
Updated credits text to correct a wrongly spelled name.
Updated Norwegian localization to fix some missing translations.
Updated so the Chicken Run tab on highscores actually shows the chicken
Updated Chicken Run sprite to be a little bigger, so it looks a little more different from regular chick-uns.
Fixed some thumb-stick remapping issues.
Fixed some issues with minimap and two hearts in a room.

In a market saturated with overly complicated rogue-likes, roguecraft cuts the fat and delivers a very enjoyable game with great style...and music!

Firstly I was a QA tester for the game and have also tested previous ports for it, on Amiga etc.I am in no way affiliated with Badger Punch, I just happen to stream retro and that's how they got to know me. Now thats out of the way...

I love this game. It isn't perfect, nothing is. It has things that annoy me like remembering the potions but nothing in the game breaks my immersion or fun when playing it. Even on Chicken Run... Hard mode it is though!

Graphics are wonderful and perfect for the game, I love the pixel look and feel though on PC its far less than other retro ports. They are distinct and the game runs smooth as butter, as expected.

Audio is suitably the same as is the music. The audio may betray its retro roots but I will take that over "yet another cinematic theme tune" any day of the week. SFX rock and feel suitably squelchy for the game.

Gameplay though is where the game shines. Yes its "simple" but its a roguelike... its not supposed to be hard except in a random way and the game has replayability to its very core. One more go is my default on Rougecraft. I love playing on medium via the Rogue character, not so keen on the wizard dude but I always hate magic characters with flying missiles so thats just me.

Extra gamemodes are great and we have a few friends playing for highscores etc so competition is quite high despite it being different every play-through.. Controls are great, I have NP using Joystick, Mouse or Keyboard but it seems some do. Maybe I just play a lot of old skool games, dunno.

Overall its just good value for money and fun to play, give the demo a go and find out for yourself :)

Plays OOTB on Linux for me.

Simple can be fun. You can simply die to an Oogle on level 15, but that's the classic flavor this game replicates. I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but the world needs more approachable roguelikes, and this is a great place to start.

Does grabbing badger count as opening chest?

I finished game twice while exploring every room in the map including secret rooms but I still can't get all the chests. Any ideas? I wasn't grabbing badgers though.

graphics derez is way overdone

why, its so fuzzy, i literally cant look at it (granted i have a some problems with the focal point of my eyes but its not a problem in regular games). can we get a version without the filter?
