it lulls you in with a remake of the first, then breaks your mind open. iz good

I have replayed the original more than 5 times at this point, not that it is a very long game. I was excited to see that the devs were planning on doing more with this story, whatever that may be. This was exactly what I was hoping for. That being said, it was not what I was expecting and I am glad. Really lovely and horrifying. A genuinely unsettling experience which offers no clear narrative to comfort you. Played on steam deck and it ran great. Hope to see more from this dev team again.

I am a big fan of the original Paratopic and was super excited to see Paratopic: Overdub. While I do enjoy and recommend the Overdub, I think most of what it does complicate the Paratopic world. There are new scenes that expand the story in interesting ways, but also create some baggage that I was not as interested in. Overdub also recreates several scenes from the original. Sometimes the new scene feels meaningful, like it adds more to the world or gives a more graphic picture of events. However, others scenes feel like it they are a lesser version of the original which is a bit disappointing.

Ultimately, I still enjoyed the game and thought it was fun to see how the team chose to expand the world of Paratopic. I will continue to support them in making cool, bizarre, and haunting stories, but I think I would prefer focusing on new ideas going forward, even if they decide to continue to explore the world of Paratopic.
