This game is brimming with character and love, and the animation is so so good.

I bought this as soon as it was released and thought it couldn't go wrong with a combo of base building/tower defense.

However I reluctantly agree with the other negative comments that the RNG of the shop ruins the experience. If you don't get the basics to start building your economy and upgrading turrets you are screwed, and to have that behind random drops means I'm not doing anything half the time, as theres nothing i can build/upgrade. Then to add to that the few ways of getting modules more often than not give you duplicates or super high level modules you'll never have any chance of building as it's wave 4 and you don't even have a mineral module.

Something needs to be tweaked on this aspect of the game, making it context aware of what you need, or starting you with more basic modules, but at the moment, how far you get has nothing to do with strategy, turret placement or resource management and 100% to do with timing of RNG drops.

Can't tell you how long I've waited to get my hands on this after trying the demo months ago.

It's a lovely game.

The loop is straightforward - defend your ship against 20 waves as you travel through the galaxy. Travelling gets you to various "stations" where you can buy, trade or have unique events. As you travel, you have story encounters that do things.

You build your ship with chambers, fill them with modules that produce various resources that you need to build defenses against the invader waves.

It really scratches a lot of itches and does them all well.

The resource production chains are interesting. Modules have various modifiers. You can defend with both turrets on the hall (and there's so many kinds) and defenders in the airlock (again, so many kinds).

The narrative bits are cute, varied and rewarding. Some positively, some not.

It's a gem. Great fun, strongly recommend.
