Last week, we revealed our upcoming narrative-driven drone simulator Rescue Drone Simulator: Second Chance! The reception has been very positive and we want to keep up the transparent communication with our community. So, it’s time to also regularly start posting on Steam in the form of devlogs - in those, we will go in-depth about all the nitty-gritty of what makes our game unique and how we approach different aspects of the design.

Today, let’s talk about Drone Variety - after all, to be a good rescue pilot, you need to master the ways of pilotting a few types of drones! Let’s tackle them one by one…

One of the first drones you will have to learn how to pilot is the most crucial one for any rescue - so a Medic Drone! It comes equipped with a body heat sensor and a cellphone signal tracker to locate those in need. Once you track the civilians, you can drop medkits to help people accordingly and make sure nobody dies on your watch.

Medic drones also have a very strong flashlight attached to squeeze into tight spaces and find wounded civilians even in the darkest corners.

Now, in RDS: Second Chance, you will also have to deal with nature’s elements. Some buildings or areas may be inaccessible to enter because of an active fire, so you will have to take care of this first by utilizing the Firefighter Drone. You can not only spray powder using an attached hose to extinguish big fires but also quickly drop waterbombs from above. However, powder and water are not unlimited and you will have to plan accordingly and use your resources responsibly.

Firefighter drones have some more versatile uses as well, for example detecting on-going gas leaks. But you won’t be able to use it to fly very fast as it is considerably bulkier than the rest.

Scouting the area ahead before you send the more specialized drones is crucial for a successful rescue operation and Police Drones  are so nimble that they are perfect for the job! However, scouting is not the only task of these drones - you can also use the Megaphone system to send directions/warnings or drop smoke bombs on the ground.

It may look deceptively easy at first, but knowing how to best utilize its strengths takes time and proper planning. Oh, and also some good aim as you have to actually disable someone you are trying to neutralize with the taser attachment.

You must remember that in the world of RDS: Second Chance, there will be people trying to stop you from doing your job, so sometimes facing an enemy drone is inevitable. Enemies have taken notice of your actions and they don’t want you to disrupt the chaos. They deployed drones of their own to stop you… but fret not! You will be able to fight back by using the Antidrone.

How? You can catch enemy drones into nets, effectively immobilizing them, or use your limited EMP charges to destroy electronic devices.

That’s all about the drones for now, but we will surely revisit those in the future as the game develops further.  Let us know what you would like us to showcase in the future! We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments 🙂
