Castle of the Zephyr 1.0.3 update

Oct 30

Fixed: Coming back from a boss room keeps that floor's monsters and any loot you left there.
Fixed: Chests and packs found in the wild no longer roll Holding. Shops and the mundane enchanter can still offer it.
Fixed: Drinking a potion or an elixir restores thirst, the same as a bottle of pure water. (This was always intended behavior, but was bugged until now.)
New: Every new character starts with 4 bottles of cider and 2 meat stews in their pack.
New: Starving or dying of thirst puts a warning at the bottom of the screen.
New: Yes and No buttons show the key that presses them. Yes follows your Interact key. No follows your Cancel key.
New: About twenty Sages say entries in the Codex were rewritten.

Castle of the Zephyr 1.0.2

Fixed: Windowed mode stays windowed on a 1080p screen.
Fixed: The Windows taskbar icon is the heroine.
New: General belt pouches can hold bags, food, drink, and wands.
New: Belts can carry more weight, and a lot more bulk.
New: When a belt pocket runs out, it refills from a bag on the belt first, then from your pack. That covers potions, scrolls, food, drink, arrows, and thrown weapons.
New: Spent wands and empty bottles go into your pack, or onto the floor if the pack is full.
New: Alt-click moves a belt item onto your belt. If every pocket is full, it goes into a bag that is already on the belt.
New: Alt-click on the belt, or inside a bag on the belt, sends that stack back to your pack, or onto the floor if the pack is full.
New: Alt-click in a shop buys the item straight onto your belt when it fits.
New: The inventory bar lists the Alt, Shift, and Ctrl shortcuts.
New: Food in a belt pouch can be used from the hotbar. Each use eats one from the stack.
New: A new Hunter starts with a bag of spare arrows on the belt. A new Skulker starts with a bag of spare darts on the belt.
Fixed: Nesting a bag of holding no longer copies your worn backpack onto the floor.
Fixed: Snorlig and Rhad's quests name the right castle floors.
Fixed: Hunt quests that did not name a place now give you a town and a direction.

Castle of the Zephyr

key rebinds

I can't get the diagonal movement to properly bind to my numpad. Or anything else on the keyboard. Only the default settings make the character move diagonally. Not sure what's going on with this. Odd.

It's a slightly more forgiving rogue-like. But a proper rogue-like. The first piece of armor I picked up was cursed. 7/10.

So far I've cleared the first little dungeon and started exploring, it feels very much like Castle of the Winds and I'm enjoying it a lot! It seems to be a good spiritual successor to CotW and I'm definitely going to be playing my way through this a few times with different playstyles!

So how much is there to the game?

Is it mostly just a port of Castle of the Winds? Or did you expand on it? CotW was great, though, it was very limited.

Ask the Dev

Hi guys, Vechs here! I'm the guy making Castle of the Zephyr. If you have any questions about COTZ, just ask them here, and I'll try to check this thread every 48 to 72 hours and answer any questions. Just a few I've seen before: Can we use custom art for players? Yes! You can make your own sprites and use them. Can we use custom art for monsters? Is there a custom monster editor? Yes! You can make your own monsters and use your own art (or use existing art a...
