v1.2.2 Update: 12 refreshed songs, a smaller install size & a fix for getting le

Oct 12

Version 1.2.2 is out now. I've given 12 songs new lyrics and example drawings, and the game is now about a third smaller than before. I've also fixed an online issue where everyone else's game would start while you were left behind in the lobby, along with a few other things.

You can still play in the same room as people on v1.2.0. However, anyone who hasn't updated will still see the old lyrics and drawings for the refreshed songs, so it's best if everyone in your group updates too.

Thanks for playing Drawaoke! I read the 👍👎 ratings you give songs on the answer screen and use them to guide updates. If you run into a bug, please report it with the "Report a bug" button on the title screen so I can fix it quickly.

Draw-along songs

Some songs have new lyrics and new example drawings
If you've played one of these songs before, its card in the Draw-Along Collection now shows an "Updated!" mark
Updated songs come up sooner, right after the songs you haven't played yet. Once you've played the updated version, they're treated like any other song

Smaller download size

We changed how the song audio is stored, bringing the game down to about two-thirds of its previous size. Updates download faster and the game takes up less space on your PC. The number of songs and how they sound are unchanged

Online rooms

If nothing is arriving from the host, you'll now see a message in the lobby. On the host's screen, a mark appears on that player's name tag. The host can go ahead and start the game even if someone has the mark
Players who aren't receiving anything from the host can now still start the game and play it through to the end (previously, everyone else would start while that player stayed behind in the lobby). On that player's screen, other players' drawings may not show up. Their own drawing still reaches everyone as before
If you see the message, please send us a report using the "Report a bug" button on the title screen. The report now includes details about the connection, which makes the cause easier to track down. Names, chat messages, and Steam IDs are not included

Removed the mute-vocals button

We removed the button next to the lyrics that muted the vocals mid-song. Pressing it repeatedly could throw your song out of step with the other players, or keep you from reaching the reveal. Please choose in advance whether vocals play, under "Singing voice" in Settings. It applies from the next song that plays
While vocals are muted, a small mark appears next to the lyrics and on the reveal screen

Bug fixes

Fixed a problem where the "Where to look for rooms" setting (chosen in Settings) didn't work correctly when joining a room with a code
In Whatsit mode's answer reveal, the bottom of the "To the reveal" button was cut off when two or more people were playing. Fixed

If you run into a problem, please let us know with "Report a bug" on the title screen. We also post news on X (@2P_START).

v1.2.0 Update: 20 new draw-along songs (70 total) & easier-to-play Guess-Off

Oct 7

Version 1.2.0 is out now. We've added 20 new draw-along songs, for a total of 70. We've also rebuilt how Guess-Off scoring works and what's on screen, and added tips that appear before you start drawing.

You can't play in the same room as people on v1.1.5 or earlier. Please make sure everyone you play with is on the same version.

20 new draw-along songs

Added 20 new draw-along songs, for a total of 70
6 songs have new lyrics and example drawings. If you've played one before, its card in the Draw-Along Collection shows an "Updated!" mark (the mark goes away after you play the song once)
Based on how everyone has been playing, we've moved some songs to different difficulties
Hover over the "Draw-along song difficulty" card in the lobby to see how many songs can come up with the selected difficulties
When the host is playing the game for the first time, only their first game picks from 6 especially easy-to-draw songs. From the second game on, that limit is lifted and songs are picked at random from the selected difficulties

Room settings

You can now pick as many of the 4 difficulties as you like: "Easy", "Normal", "Hard", and "Merciless"
"Quick setup" now has 4 options: "Beginner", "Recommended", "Intermediate", and "Advanced"

Guess-Off

Guessers' answers now show up on the right side of the artist's screen
Guessers now see their own answers and game messages pop up as cards in the top left of their screen
Guessers now score based on how far into the song they guess correctly (the "Verse" counter at the top). Hard and Merciless songs give bonus points on top
The guesser's screen now shows the current song's difficulty and bonus

Other changes

Tips on shrinking and moving your drawing now appear before you start drawing
If a guest leaves mid-game, a bot takes over their seat and the game carries on
Names containing inappropriate words are now censored on other players' screens
Added "See the announcement" and "Open settings" buttons to the message shown when Windows 11's "Smart App Control" keeps you from connecting online

Bug fixes

Fixed first-time players getting the same first song every time
Fixed the same subject sometimes coming up twice in one Guess-Off game with the "Mixed" song style
Fixed the second of two back-to-back Guess-Off games sometimes jumping straight to Answer time at the start
Fixed pressing "Next" quickly during the reveal sometimes moving on two songs instead of one

If you run into a problem, please let us know with "Report a bug" on the title screen. We also post news on X (@2P_START).

[Windows 11] Game won't start or can't go online (error codes: 0x11C7, E-POLICY)

Oct 6

About this announcement

We've had reports that on Windows 11 PCs, Drawaoke either "won't start" or "starts but can't go online." Both have the same cause: Windows 11's "Smart App Control" (a feature that protects your PC) is blocking the game's files.

If you can play right now, you only need to read "What can happen after an update." If you're thinking of buying the game, see "Check your own PC" and "About refunds."

First, find out which one applies to you

[A] The game won't start (0x11C7)

When you launch it from Steam, you see "Failed to start process for game:"
The message after it may be garbled, and it ends with the code (0x11C7)
The original message means "An Application Control policy has blocked this file"

The game starts but can't go online (E-POLICY)[/p]

The game shows "E-POLICY" and this message: Windows 11's "Smart App Control" is blocking a file this game needs for online play.
You can't play with other people, but you can play with bots
It happens every time, even after restarting Steam or reinstalling the game

If neither applies to you, see the last section, "Still not fixed, or neither applies."

The cause (A and B)
For both A and B, the cause is a standard Windows 11 feature, "Smart App Control," blocking the game's files. If it blocks the game itself, you get A. If it blocks the file needed for online play, you get B.
This feature checks each file an app uses one by one. Apps without a "signature" that proves who published them, and new apps that not many people have used yet, haven't been confirmed as safe yet. Drawaoke's files have no signature, and the game is still new, so they fall into this group.

What can happen after an update (if you can play right now)
When the game updates and its files change, files that used to get through can be blocked again. That's why some people who were playing fine before suddenly couldn't go online after an update.
Starting with the current version, v1.1.5, we rebuilt the file needed for online play so its contents won't change with updates. Because of this, we expect that people who can play now will no longer suddenly lose online play after an update.
(The game's main file is new with every update, so "won't start" can still happen after an update. If it does, pick an option from "What you can do.")

Check your own PC (A and B)
This feature is only on Windows 11 PCs.
Check in Settings whether Smart App Control is "On."
Settings (Windows key + I) > Privacy & security > Windows Security > App & browser control > Smart App Control settings
If it's "On," A or B can happen
"Evaluation" is a wait-and-see mode. It doesn't block files, but after analyzing how you use your PC, Windows automatically switches it to "On" or "Off"
If it's "Off," this feature isn't involved. (If you still have problems such as not being able to go online, that's a different cause, so we'd appreciate a report.)
You can see what was blocked in the same Windows Security app, under "Virus & threat protection" > "Protection history." For B, you'll see a file with "steamworksjs" in its name.

What you can do (3 options)
You have 3 options. It's up to you whether to turn it off.
① Turn off Smart App Control (read "Before you turn it off" below first)
② Request a refund (see "About refunds")
③ Wait for Microsoft's review (see "What's next")

Before you turn it off
Turning it off lets the game start and go online, but it removes this protection from your whole PC. And on some PCs, you can't turn it back "On" later.
There's no sure way to check beforehand whether your PC will let you turn it back on. Only turn it off if you're OK with not being able to turn it back on
To improve your chances of turning it back on, install all Windows updates first (if you have updates from March 2026 or later, you can often turn it back on from the same screen)
There's no setting that lets just one game through (according to Microsoft). You change the setting on the same screen where you checked it
2P START can't take responsibility for what happens as a result of turning it off

About refunds
You can request a Steam refund for any reason. The general guideline is within 14 days of purchase and under 2 hours of playtime. This applies whether the game wouldn't start or you couldn't play online.

What's next
If enough people play this game and Microsoft judges it safe, it will stop being blocked even on PCs set to "On." That's because this feature doesn't block files that many people have used and that have been judged safe. We don't know when that will happen.
Also, on October 5 we asked Microsoft to review the safety of our files. We'll post another update when we get the results.

Still not fixed, or neither applies
If you're in one of these groups, it's a different cause. We're still looking into it.
You see a code other than "E-POLICY" (a different code starting with E-)
You can't go online, but no error code appears
Smart App Control is "Off," but you still can't connect
Please send us the details through our official X account (@2P_START) or the in-game bug report (if the game won't start, use the form in the next section). We'll share what we find in the announcements on the store page. If you can't play while we look into it, you can also request a refund.

Please send a report
[A] Won't start (0x11C7) → please use the bug report form.
https://forms.gle/ii31gnhJWewgsQtCA
Can't go online (E-POLICY) → please send it from inside the game.[/p]
In the game's settings: "News and bug reports" > "Report a bug"
The "Report a problem" button on the "You're not online right now." screen
When you send it from inside the game, the error code and the game log are attached automatically (your name and Steam ID are not included).
