I'd heard a lot of complaints about Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2, so I held off buying it for a while. Eventually I decided to bite the bullet and see for myself just how bad it really was.

Turns out... it isn't.

Some people grew up playing Dungeons & Dragons. I grew up with White Wolf's Storyteller system, so I've always loved the World of Darkness. Maybe that's why this game clicked with me. It captures the feel of that universe while staying approachable enough for newcomers who know nothing about Vampire: The Masquerade.

Now, it's not perfect. The combat and controls can feel a little clunky at first and take some getting used to, which is probably my biggest complaint. I also would've loved to see some Gangrel representation.

Visually, I think the game looks great. It isn't trying to be photorealistic, but the art direction fits the setting well and creates the atmosphere I'd expect from the World of Darkness.

The biggest criticism I keep hearing is that it doesn't feel like the original Bloodlines. Honestly... I agree. It doesn't. But I don't think that's a bad thing. The original Bloodlines itself was a very different experience from Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption. Every game in a series doesn't have to play exactly the same.

Instead of comparing it to previous entries, try judging it on its own merits. It's a different story, different characters, different city, and a different style of gameplay. If you go in expecting a fun World of Darkness RPG instead of trying to relive Bloodlines from 2004, there's a good chance you'll have a great time.

For me, this was a surprisingly enjoyable RPG-lite experience that deserved far less hate than it received.

The Precinct ended up being a pleasant surprise for me. I normally don't care much for this style of game. The old top-down GTA games never really clicked with me, and even games like American Fugitive didn't hold my attention for very long. But somehow, The Precinct just feels different.

Everything feels natural. The controls are easy to pick up, and the vehicles are genuinely fun to drive. Nothing feels awkward or frustrating, which made it easy to settle into the game's rhythm.

One thing I really enjoy is the fact that you're playing a cop instead of a criminal. As much as I enjoy open-world crime sagas, sometimes it's nice to protect and serve instead. The game gives you plenty of ways to do that too. You can walk the beat, handle traffic violations, patrol the streets at night, fly the helicopter, and even drive a tow truck. There's a lot of variety in the jobs you're given.

Is it realistic? I honestly don't know! I'm not a cop! But it feels believable, and for an entertainment game, I think that's what matters most. It feels authentic enough, and more importantly, it's fun.

The graphics are surprisingly good as well. The city really comes alive at night, and that's when the game shines the brightest. Night patrols ended up being my favorite shifts just because Averno City looks so good after dark.

If you're looking for a fun and unique twist on the classic top-down open-world formula, The Precinct is definitely worth checking out.

yea, I'm actually on the fence about buying it. The lack of player lobby combined with the inability to edit keybindings is kind of putting me off a little...most likely I'll still pick it up before the sale ends. Just sitting on the fence(also waiting to see if there are any bugs or things that pop up, but so far the game seems playable other than those two aspects)

Cheers, guv'na! I decided to do the right thing and write a review, with the cold hard facts. Letting people know what they're buying and how the game is at the very moment is something reviews are supposed to there for. You seem like a very cool fellow and actually saw the problem there as well. Hopefully we can play some games together some time. Take care and have a good one! :happycrank::ss13ok:
